Waste Management

The Council's Rubbish Tip is a managed site and is opened each Friday and Monday 8:00 am to 1:00 pm and each Sunday and Monday 8:00 am to 5:00 pm, excepting Christmas Day and New Years Day. The site will also be closed without notice on days of "Extreme" Fire Danger and / or a Harvest Barn has been imposed.

Location

The Rubbish Tip is situated on the Quairading to Cunderdin Road 800 metres North of the town site.

Accepted Waste

Council will accept household and green waste.

Large animal disposal is not available at the Tip site. Council will only accept certain tyres for disposal with a disposal fee to apply; any asbestos must be wrapped in black plastic prior to lodging that the designated hole. Approval to dispose of all building rubble must be sought from Council’s Manager of  Health and building Services or Shire Office on 08 9645 1001.

An Oil Recycling facility is provided at the Landfill Site.

Recycling

Council provides a recycling service located at the Old Drive In site on Louden Street which is open Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday between 8.30am and 4.00pm, and Saturday 8.30am to Noon.

The following can be recycled at the Recycling Centre:

  • Aluminium
  • Newspapers
  • Automotive batteries
  • Cardboard
  • White goods
  • Furniture
  • Used oil

After Hours Recycling Centre

Council provides an additional recycling facility (open 24/7) adjoining the Shire Works Depot, Walker Street for the following items: -

  • Newspaper
  • Glass
  • Aluminium cans

drumMuster

Council supports the “drumMuster” programme which provides for the return, recycling or reuse of clean chemical containers.

Collection days are held annually and are advertised well in advance by Council. Bookings can be made through the Shire Office on 96451001.
