SHIRE OF QUAIRADING

Prohibited Burning and Fire Season Notice

 The PROHIBITED BURNING PERIOD starts on Thursday, 1st November 2018.  All burning, including garden refuse is prohibited during this period, which concludes on the 14th February 2019.

 FUEL REDUCTION AND FIREBREAK REQUIREMENTS

  • Firebreaks must be in place by 31st October 2018 and maintained to the 29th March 2019.
  • Firebreaks and fuel reduction areas will be inspected shortly after the 1st November 2018.

 All Lots within the Shire of Quairading are required to have the necessary fire prevention measures completed by the 31st October 2018 and maintained to the 29th March 2019 as per the 2018/2019 Notice issued with the Rates Notice.

Land Area of less than 2024m2 - All hazardous material is to be removed from the whole of the land except living trees, shrubs and plants.  The remaining vegetation is to be maintained to a height of no greater than 7.5cm. Maintain fuel loadings in natural bush areas at less than 8 tonnes per hectare across the land.

Land Area greater than 2024m2 - Bare earth Firebreaks of not less than three (3) metres in width must be constructed along and within twenty (20) metres of all external boundaries of the property owned or occupied by you.  If any portion of the land adjoins a public road or railway line, a firebreak must also be constructed along that boundary.

Land Area greater than 400 hectares - Property in excess of 400 hectares shall have bare earth firebreaks positioned as necessary to divide land into areas not exceeding 400 hectares each completely surrounded by a firebreak.

DURING HARVESTING AND STRAW BALING

During harvesting operations there is to be an operational independent mobile water filled firefighting Unit, having a water capacity of not less than 600 litres. The tank of the Unit shall be kept full of water at all times during the harvest operations and the Unit must be located adjacent to the Harvesting Operations.

OPERATION OF PLANT AND MACHINERY

During the Prohibited Burning Period all trucks, bulldozers and headers operating on rural land must be fitted with a fire extinguisher.

A fire extinguisher must have at least 7.5 litres of water, and is capable of discharging that water under pressure and be in a sound working condition.

During the Prohibited Burning Period, all internal combustion motors being stationary and unattended shall not be operated unless clear of all flammable material immediately surrounding the motor.
