Nominations are now open for the Shire of Quairading Extraordinary Election to fill a single vacancy on Council.

Nominations close at 4.00PM 8th October, 2024.

Our Works Team will be undertaking mosquito foggin

Our Works Team will be undertaking mosquito fogging this week.

The purpose of fogging is to knock down mosquitoes around town when they are most active. Fogging generally happens at dusk, subject to prevailing weather conditions.

The insecticide used by the Shire is Aqua-K-Othrin Insecticide Space Spray Concentrate which is a water-based insecticide and is non-residual. This insecticide is a common fogging product and has been approved for this purpose by the Australian Pesticides and Veterinary Medicines Authority. The pyrethroid based insecticide is well diluted in water but could be a mild irritant to eyes, nose and throat. Residents are advised to move people and pets indoors when the fogger comes past. Please cover any exterior fish ponds.

The Shire also provides an SMS alert message when fogging is planned. If you would like to receive this text message please contact the Shire administration to be added to our community SMS list.

Fogging is considered to be the Shire's last line of defence against mosquitoes. To assist in controlling mosquitos, the following preventative measures should also be taken by the local community:
• Check your backyard for evidence of mosquito breeding, don’t forget your septic and water tanks.
• Empty all vessels of stagnant water around your house and yard. Remove all rubbish which may hold water, e.g. old drums, tyres and disused containers.
• Ensure that all water tanks have properly fitted lids. Treat water with paraffin oil or kerosene in sufficient quantity to provide a film of oil across the surface.
• Avoid being outside during dawn and dusk when mosquitoes are at their most active.

While every effort is made to minimise impact to the community, if you would prefer fogging to not occur outside your residence, please contact the Shire’s Works Depot on 9645 2400.
